**The product.** An Android app that puts a floating "Translate" button over WhatsApp. When you tap it in a chat and choose your friend's language, the app reads the messages on the screen, shows each one translated into your language, and sends your replies in your friend's language. The translation runs on Google Gemini. New users get 5 free translated messages; after that a subscription gives unlimited translations.

**Why it worked.** It solves one narrow problem for a very large app: WhatsApp users who chat with people in another language and do not want to copy every message into a translator. The app has been on Google Play since June 2021 and counts more than 700,000 installs. The Flippa listing says all growth was organic, that the translation API costs about US$20 a month, and that the app needs about two hours of work a week.

## Summary

LangLang is an Android app that translates WhatsApp chats in place. It works through the AccessibilityService API, a part of Android made for apps that help people with disabilities: with the user's permission, such an app can read the text on the screen and act in other apps. LangLang uses it to read the messages in an open WhatsApp chat, send them to Google Gemini, Google's family of large language models, for translation, and show the result in the chat. It can also translate and send the user's replies. The app is free to install, gives 5 free translations, and then sells subscriptions through in-app purchases, payments made inside the app and collected by Google Play.

The Google Play publisher is BEYOND ANALYTICS LTDA, a company in Brazil, and the app's terms of service call LangLang one of its brands. Its own website describes a bootstrapped growth consultancy in São Paulo, led by its founder Rômulo Gomes. The app's first website, in 2021 and 2022, named a different owner, JoWoCo, LLC; no source read here says when or how the app changed hands. Google Play's page data gives the release date as 17 June 2021 and 728,834 installs. The app is for sale on Flippa, a marketplace for websites and apps. On 27 October 2026 the listing showed monthly revenue of US$4,050 and a monthly profit of US$3,883. In June 2026 the same listing showed a monthly profit of US$4,514, so the figure fell by about 14% in four months.

Flippa marks the listing "Vetted": its team says it reviewed the revenue, the main costs and the traffic. The listing shows no connection to Google Play or Adapty, the payment tools that the seller names, so the figures are grade C on this page, not A. The page also shows earlier companies that built a better layer on top of messaging or email platforms that they did not control.

## Pricing

LangLang prices in October 2026: the free credits from the company's help page (grade C) and the range of in-app purchases from Google Play's US page (grade B)

| Plan | Per month, billed yearly (US$) | Per month, billed monthly (US$) | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 0 | 0 | 5 credits once; 1 credit = 1 translated message |
| Subscription (in-app purchase) | | | unlimited translations; Google Play lists items from US$1.99 to US$49.99, periods not published |

Google Play gives only the range of in-app purchase prices, US$1.99 to US$49.99 per item, without plan names or periods, and the company's pages do not list the plans. The help page says that 1 credit is 1 translated message, that new users get 5 credits, that there is no way to earn more, and that a subscription removes the credit limit. The Flippa listing says the app earns through "a recurring subscription model" managed with the Adapty SDK.

## How much revenue does LangLang make? The numbers, graded

How to read this table: a grade C value is a figure from the Flippa listing, which Flippa's team reviewed but did not connect to a payment provider, or a statement on the company's own pages. A grade B value comes from Google Play's own page. A grade X value was calculated on this page from the rows that it names. No value is grade A.

## When did LangLang launch, and how did it grow? Timeline

From a waiting-list page in 2021 to a subscription app with more than 700,000 installs that is for sale. Each entry carries its grade.

- **June 2021** (grade C [4, 9]): Google Play's data gives 17 June 2021 as the release date. In December 2021 the website still shows a waiting list, "Launching June 2021", and the owner "JoWoCo, LLC".
- **June 2022** (grade C [10]): The website links the Android app and a Chrome extension for WhatsApp on the web, still under JoWoCo, LLC.
- **22 September 2022** (grade B [4]): A Google Play review calls it the best translator for WhatsApp and asks how it can be free.
- **16 January 2025** (grade B [4]): A review describes the yellow translate button: messages appear in both languages, and the reply is sent in Spanish. The publisher, "Apps that go Beyond", answers it.
- **April 2026** (grade C [12]): A new website names Google Gemini as the translation engine and shows "Google Play Rating: 4.6/5".
- **28 June 2026** (grade C [3]): The Flippa listing shows a monthly profit of US$4,514, an app age of 1 year and an asking price of US$173,500.
- **11 September 2026** (grade B [4]): Latest app update: it fixes a bubble that appeared over every app and the accessibility permission that switched itself off.
- **27 October 2026** (grade C [1, 2]): The listing, under a new title, shows US$4,050 a month in revenue, a profit of US$3,883, an app age of 5 years, "~2 hrs/week" and an asking price of US$84,490.

## Why did LangLang work?

### One problem inside one very large app

The app does one thing: it translates WhatsApp chats without leaving WhatsApp. Its store text says that switching between WhatsApp and Google Translate is slow and that Android's own translation "can't automatically translate conversations or send translated messages".

### A model that costs almost nothing per message

The seller says the translation API costs about US$20 a month, about 0.5% of revenue, and states a 96% profit margin. Short chat messages are cheap to translate with a current language model.

### Free credits, then a subscription

A new user gets 5 translated messages. The help page says there is no way to earn more and that a subscription removes the limit. The user meets the paywall after seeing the product work in a real chat.

### Little work once it runs

The listing title says about 2 hours of work a week. The last update, in September 2026, fixed problems with the floating button and the accessibility permission.

## How it was built

These details come from the Flippa listing, the company's help pages and the Google Play page. The seller's statements are grade C.

- A native Android app written in Kotlin.
- The AccessibilityService API reads the WhatsApp messages on the screen, and an "Appear on top" permission draws the floating "Translate" button. The help page walks the user through both permissions.
- Translation by Google Gemini since at least April 2026, for about US$20 a month in API costs, as the seller states.
- Subscriptions through Google Play in-app purchases, managed with the Adapty SDK, which the seller lists among the upgrades.
- Statistics from Firebase and Google Analytics, as the seller states; the website also loads the Clicky web statistics service.
- The website also links a Chrome extension for WhatsApp on the web.

## Who tried this before LangLang, and why did they fail?

Four companies in the Loot Drop database built a layer on top of messaging or email platforms that they did not control, or sold translation. The values below are from that database and are not independently verified.

The failed startups come from Loot Drop (https://www.loot-drop.io/), a free database of dead startups, retold here in our own words; Loot Drop describes its entries as AI-assisted summaries of public sources, so they carry no evidence grade.

### Flux (2015 to 2018; funding US$7M; cause: Team/Founder Conflict)

- Promise: One inbox for Slack, email, WhatsApp and the other messaging apps.
- Why it died: The outside platforms kept changing and breaking the integrations, and the money went into repairs.
- Record: https://www.loot-drop.io/startup/1901-flux

### Xobni (2006 to 2013; funding US$42M; cause: Competition)

- Promise: A smarter inbox inside Microsoft Outlook.
- Why it died: Tied to Outlook, which Microsoft improved itself, while mobile made the desktop add-on less useful. Yahoo bought the remains.
- Record: https://www.loot-drop.io/startup/763-xobni

### Guggy (2017 to 2020; funding US$120K; cause: Competition)

- Promise: Turn chat messages into GIFs inside the messaging apps.
- Why it died: WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger offered GIFs themselves, and Guggy had no plan for revenue.
- Record: https://www.loot-drop.io/startup/1429-guggy

### TurboTranslations (2014 to 2023; funding US$150K; cause: Ran Out of Cash)

- Promise: Faster and cheaper translation through a marketplace of freelance translators.
- Why it died: Neural machine translation from Google and DeepL, and later large language models, closed the quality gap that the human marketplace sold.
- Record: https://www.loot-drop.io/startup/2263-turbotranslations

## What changed

Flux, Xobni and Guggy each lived on top of a platform owned by someone else, and the platform either broke the connection or built the feature itself. LangLang has the same weakness twice: it depends on WhatsApp's screen layout and on Google's rules for the AccessibilityService API, and either company can change them. TurboTranslations shows the other side: machine translation removed the value of paid human translation for short texts.

What differs is cost. A large language model now translates a chat message for a tiny fraction of a cent, so a small app can charge a subscription and keep a margin of more than 90%, as the seller states. LangLang does not compete with machine translation; it sells convenience on top of it, inside the app where the conversation already happens.

## Can one person copy LangLang now?

**Verdict: The structure, yes. The platform risk stays.**

An app that removes one repeated step inside a very large app, and that runs a cheap model for each use, is a structure that a small team can copy. LangLang's revenue, about US$4,050 a month by the October 2026 listing after five years, shows the size such a niche reaches, and the 14% fall since June 2026 shows that it does not grow by itself.

1. Find a step that users of a very large app repeat many times a day, such as copying text into another app.
2. Do the step in place, with the permissions that the operating system offers, and explain each permission in the help pages.
3. Use a current language model, so that each use costs almost nothing.
4. Give a few free uses, then sell a subscription that removes the limit.
5. Write down which platform rules the app depends on, and watch them.

**What is still open.** Other large chat apps and other repeated steps: translation of voice messages, replies in a second language for small sellers, and the same idea for Telegram or Instagram direct messages.

## What could go wrong for LangLang?

- **Reviewed by Flippa, not read from a payment provider.** Flippa says its team reviewed the revenue, the main costs and the traffic, but the listing shows no connection to Google Play or Adapty, and Flippa itself tells buyers that "Financials are seller-provided inputs". The seller's sentence of "approximately $4,500 to $5,000" a month is older than the October 2026 profit figure, which implies about US$4,045.
- **Who runs it.** Google Play names BEYOND ANALYTICS LTDA as the developer, and that company's website describes a growth consultancy led by Rômulo Gomes, without mentioning LangLang. The first website named JoWoCo, LLC as the owner in 2021 and 2022. No source read here says who built the app, when it changed owners, or how many people work on it. The Flippa listing gave the app age as 1 year in June 2026 and 5 years in October 2026. The same Google Play developer publishes Soso, a period tracker for tweens.
- **A rating count that matches no store figure.** The website's structured data, the hidden description that search engines read, gives "ratingValue": "4.6" and "ratingCount": "1542". It is in the archived copy of 16 April 2026 and not in the copy of 19 January 2026. Google Play showed 8.43K reviews on 27 October 2026 and a rating of 4.6 only in the Brazilian store (4.3 in the US store). The rating is real for one country; no source explains the count of 1,542.
- **It reads private chats.** The app reads WhatsApp messages through the AccessibilityService API. The website says "We do not store your messages on our servers", and the Google Play data safety section says "No data shared with third parties". The seller says translation runs on Google Gemini, so the text of the messages is sent to Google to be translated. On 27 October 2026 the "Terms" and "Privacy" links in the website footer returned "This Page Does Not Exist"; the privacy policy that Google Play links, langlang.co/privacy.html, is a general policy of Beyond Analytics that says it may use third parties "such as, without limitation, Google, Clicky , Firebase" and does not mention WhatsApp messages. The terms require users to be at least 18 or to have consent.
- **Depends on WhatsApp and on Android's rules.** The app calls itself "Translator for WhatsApp" and says it is "not affiliated with or officially endorsed by WhatsApp or Facebook". A change to WhatsApp's screens or to Google's rules for accessibility apps could stop it working, and a review of February 2026 describes a setup that stopped at the permission step.
- **Revenue and price are falling.** The monthly profit fell from US$4,514 in June 2026 to US$3,883 in October 2026, and the asking price fell from US$173,500 to US$84,490. Neither is a sale price. No sale has been reported.
