**The product.** SheetAI is an add-on for Google Sheets. It adds formulas such as =SHEETAI("Write a tagline for a coffee brand") that send a prompt to a language model and write the answer into the cell. The user drags the formula down a column to process hundreds of rows. Other functions classify, summarize, extract, and build lists and tables, and through Replicate they generate images, video and music. A sidebar writes ordinary spreadsheet formulas from a plain-English description. The customer either pastes an API key from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI or DeepSeek, which is free since 2026, or pays for a hosted plan.

**Why it worked.** It put a language model inside Google Sheets from November 2022, and Google's marketplace brought more than 201,000 installs. Few installs paid: US$52,136 of verified revenue in 47 months is about US$0.26 per install. Its most important result may be indirect: a request for a pitch deck for SheetAI led the founder to build MagicSlides, which by its own verified data earned about 14 times as much. SheetAI's own revenue is now falling, and Google has offered a similar AI function inside Sheets since June 2025.

Evidence grades: A = disclosed by a public company, a filing or a payment processor, or verified by one; B = two or more independent reports agree, or a journalist confirmed it; C = a founder claim that no one else verified; D = reported, not verified: one founder claim or a third-party estimate with no second source; calc = computed on this page from graded facts.

## Summary

SheetAI is a Google Sheets add-on. An add-on is a small program that a user installs from the Google Workspace Marketplace, Google's catalog of extensions, and that then runs inside Google Sheets. SheetAI adds custom functions, formulas that the add-on defines, such as =SHEETAI(A2). Each call sends a prompt to a large language model, a program that generates text, through the provider's official API, the programming interface that OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and others sell access to. The answer appears in the cell. The customer can paste an API key, a secret code that bills the model use to the customer's own account with the provider, or pay SheetAI for a hosted plan that uses the company's keys.

Sanskar Tiwari, the founder of IndianAppGuy Tech Pvt Ltd in India, put the first version online in November 2022 as a tool that turned text instructions into spreadsheet formulas. In July 2026 he wrote that SheetAI was doing about US$2,000 of monthly recurring revenue (MRR), the subscription revenue of one month, when a stranger asked him for a pitch deck. Instead of making the deck, he built MagicSlides, which has its own page on this site and became his largest product. Payment data that TrustMRR reads from SheetAI's Stripe account shows US$52,136 paid by customers between the founding on 20 November 2022 and 25 October 2026. That is a total for 47 months, not a yearly rate.

The present level is small and falling. Verified revenue averaged US$869 a month from November 2025 to March 2026 and US$474 a month from June to September 2026, a fall of 45%. On 25 October 2026 MRR was US$367 from 35 subscriptions. Between June and October 2026 the company changed its prices: the use with the customer's own key, which had cost US$20 a month, became free, and hosted plans now cost US$12 or US$29 a month. This page grades every number: the revenue comes from the payment processor (grade A), the install count from Google (grade B), and the early MRR and the team sizes from the founder (grade C). It also shows four failed startups that tried to improve the spreadsheet or depended on another company's platform.

How to read this table: a grade A value was read from the Stripe account by TrustMRR through an API key. A grade B value was published by Google. A grade C value is a statement of the founder or of the company's own pages, including archived copies. A "calc" value was computed on this page from the rows above it.

## When did SheetAI launch, and how did it grow? Timeline

From a formula generator in November 2022 to US$52,136 in total revenue in 47 months, with the monthly level falling in 2026. Each entry carries its grade.

- **20 November 2022** (grade C [1, 7]): SheetAI's founding date on the TrustMRR profile. The Wayback Machine's first copy of sheetai.app is from the same day. A copy of 6 December 2022 describes a tool that turns text instructions into Google Sheets formulas, and its footer lists earlier products of the company: DiscordNotify, SMSNotify and SlackNotify.
- **December 2022 to January 2023** (grade C [7, 8]): The founder publishes guides on connecting OpenAI to SheetAI and on asking OpenAI not to use the customer's data. - **25 October 2026** (grade A [1]): Verified revenue since founding is US$52,136. MRR is US$367 from 35 subscriptions. The product is not listed for sale on TrustMRR.

## Why did SheetAI work?

### A formula as the user interface

People who work in spreadsheets already know how to write a formula and drag it down a column. SheetAI turns a model call into a formula, so the same prompt applied to 500 rows is one drag of the mouse. The home page sells exactly this: one prompt, hundreds of rows of output, with no copying between a chat window and the sheet.

### A listing in Google's marketplace

The add-on is installed from one listing in the Google Workspace Marketplace, which shows more than 201,000 installs. The founder's rule, written in July 2026, is to sell where people already do paid work, such as Sheets and Slides add-ons, instead of crowded app stores. The installs show that this channel brings users. The revenue per install, about US$0.26, shows that most of them did not pay.

### The customer pays for the model

From the first pricing page, customers could use their own OpenAI key. In January 2023 the pricing page put that use at about US$0.02 per 750 words, paid to OpenAI, and the present page says that the customer pays OpenAI directly. SheetAI also stores answers so that a repeated prompt does not call the model again. This keeps the company's costs close to zero for those users. Since 2026 that use is free, and SheetAI charges only for hosted plans that use its own keys.

### One product leads to the next

SheetAI's largest effect was MagicSlides. A user's request for a pitch deck for SheetAI led to a Slides add-on that, by its own verified data, collected US$722,575 by 13 October 2026, about 14 times SheetAI's total. SheetAI's footer now links seven other products of the company, and each one is another place where a person can pay.

## How it was built

These details come from SheetAI's own pages, documentation and archived copies, and from the TrustMRR profile. They are grade C, except the payment provider, which TrustMRR confirms.

- The first version, online in November 2022, generated Google Sheets formulas from a text description. The =SHEETAI function for free prompts followed, with guides from December 2022 and January 2023 on connecting an OpenAI key.
- The model calls use the providers' official APIs. The setup guide tells customers to create keys at platform.openai.com, aistudio.google.com, console.anthropic.com, console.x.ai and platform.deepseek.com. It says that the key is stored in the customer's Google account, is never sent to SheetAI's servers, and is used for direct API calls from the Sheets session.
- Images, video and music come from models hosted on Replicate, a service that runs open models through an API. The function =SHEETAI_IMAGE generates one image per row.
- Repeated prompts are answered from a stored copy instead of a new model call, according to the pricing page, which reduces the customer's model costs.
- Stripe takes the payments, according to the TrustMRR profile, and the site links to a Stripe billing portal for subscription changes. A license belongs to one Google account email address and needs no license key.
- An affiliate program ran through Rewardful. Its page said in October 2026 that the program is no longer active.
- From September 2026, by the founder's statement, the company's products are managed with Claude Code and without employed developers.

## Who tried this before SheetAI, and why did they fail?

Four companies in the Loot Drop database tried to improve the spreadsheet or depended on another company's platform. The values below are from that database and are not independently verified.

The failed startups come from Loot Drop (https://www.loot-drop.io/), a free database of dead startups, retold here in our own words; Loot Drop describes its entries as AI-assisted summaries of public sources, so they carry no evidence grade.

### VisiCalc (1979 to 1984; funding US$0; cause: Competition)

- Promise: The first spreadsheet program, which turned business calculations on the Apple II into a table that recalculates itself.
- Why it died: It stayed tied to the Apple II while buyers moved to IBM PCs, and Lotus 1-2-3 overtook it on the new platform.
- Record: https://www.loot-drop.io/startup/715-visicalc

### Skysheet (2009 to 2012; funding US$200K; cause: Competition)

- Promise: A spreadsheet in the browser with real-time collaboration and charts.
- Why it died: Google and Microsoft built the same functions into their own spreadsheet products, and a company with US$200,000 could not compete with them.
- Record: https://www.loot-drop.io/startup/1218-skysheet

### Fieldbook (2014 to 2019; funding US$1.7M; cause: Competition)

- Promise: A spreadsheet with database functions, so people could organize linked data without learning SQL.
- Why it died: Excel and Google Sheets added the missing functions faster than Fieldbook could persuade users to leave the tools they knew.
- Record: https://www.loot-drop.io/startup/142-fieldbook

### PostRocket (2011 to 2014; funding US$610K; cause: Product/Tech Failure)

- Promise: Better timing for Facebook page posts, based on data from the page's own audience.
- Why it died: The product worked only through Facebook's API. Facebook changed the API, and PostRocket had no product left and no plan for a second one.
- Record: https://www.loot-drop.io/startup/457-postrocket

## What changed

Skysheet and Fieldbook tried to replace or extend the spreadsheet with a product of their own, and both lost when Google and Microsoft added the same functions. SheetAI did not ask anyone to leave Google Sheets. It added one function inside Google's product, and the hard part of that function, the language model, was rented through an API. The founder built it alone, by his account, and customers who used their own keys paid for the model themselves.

The platform risk did not change. VisiCalc was tied to one computer, and PostRocket lost its product when Facebook changed its API. SheetAI depends on one marketplace listing, and since June 2025 Google has sold its own AI function inside Sheets to paying Workspace customers. The verified monthly data starts in November 2025, after Google's launch, so it cannot show whether that launch reduced SheetAI's revenue. What the data shows is a business without investors that still collects money from 35 subscriptions after almost four years, at a much lower level than before.

## Can one person copy SheetAI now?

**Verdict: The add-on idea, yes. The 2022 timing, no.**

In November 2022 a language model inside a spreadsheet was new. In 2026 Google offers the same function inside Sheets for its paid plans, and many add-ons sell similar formulas. A reader can still copy the method: a small paid tool inside a marketplace where people already work, with model costs paid by the customer. SheetAI's own numbers also show the limit: more than 201,000 installs produced US$52,136 in total, so installs alone do not make a business.

1. Put a model behind a function that people already use every day, such as a spreadsheet formula, and let them apply it to many rows at once.
2. Publish it in a marketplace where people do paid work, and put a price on it from the first week.
3. Let customers bring their own API key, so that heavy users do not create model costs for you, and sell a hosted plan to customers who do not want to manage keys.
4. Watch revenue per install, not installs. A free plan that is good enough can hold most users at zero.

**What is still open.** The general function is now built into Google Sheets. What remains open is narrower work that Google's general function does not do: functions for one industry's data, such as product catalogs, lead lists or accounting entries, with the checks and the output formats that industry needs.

## What could go wrong for SheetAI?

- **The platform owner sells the same function.** On 25 June 2025 Google announced an AI function inside Google Sheets that generates, summarizes and categorizes text from a prompt in a cell, for Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, education add-ons, and Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. SheetAI's main function does the same work. The public verified data starts in November 2025, so the effect of Google's launch on SheetAI's revenue is not established.
- **Falling revenue.** Verified revenue averaged US$869 a month from November 2025 to March 2026 and US$474 a month from June to September 2026. The last 30 days were 25.7% below the 30 days before, and MRR fell 13.2% in 30 days. The sources give no reason for the fall. The price change that made the use with the customer's own key free came between June and October 2026, after most of the fall.
- **A total earned with a company team.** The founder built and launched SheetAI alone, by his account, and he says that he now works with zero developers. Between those dates the same company employed up to 10 to 12 people at its peak, a figure given on the MagicSlides about page, and no source says how much of their work went to SheetAI or when the peak was. The verified total is a sum of 47 months, and the public data cannot separate the periods.
- **One marketplace listing.** All installs come through a single listing in the Google Workspace Marketplace. Google decides its ranking, its review rules and whether it stays online. Several Google reviews, from February 2023 to August 2025, say that a payment did not activate the paid plan or that support did not answer. The developer replied to some of them with an apology or a refund offer.
- **Numbers that do not agree.** The SheetAI home page shows a rating of 4.5 of 5 from 45 reviews, the same figure that it showed in June 2024, while Google's listing shows 3.9 of 5 from 63 ratings in October 2026. The pricing page quotes a review dated 4 January 2022, before the product's founding date of 20 November 2022. The founder's figure of about US$2,000 of MRR in January 2023 is higher than the calculated average of about US$1,253 a month before October 2025, which is possible if the revenue fell after 2023, but the public data cannot show it.
- **The founder's other products.** SheetAI's footer links MagicForm, a quiz generator for teachers and trainers; MagicSlides; TalkingPDF and AskVideo, which answer questions about a PDF or a YouTube video; BananaSlides, a slide generator; SecondBrain, a memory app for Mac; and BuildCheap, an app builder. Their home pages, read on 25 October 2026, did not offer essay writing, ways to pass AI detectors, or income promises.
