Visio is an AI photo editor: an app in which an image model, not a person with editing tools, changes a photo. The user uploads a selfie and picks a look, for example a bob cut, copper hair, a bridal dress or a business headshot, and the app sends the photo to a generative AI service (a model that draws new image content) and gets back the same face with the new hair, clothes or light. Its privacy policy says that Google does this processing and that Cloudflare stores the photos for a short time and delivers the results. The App Store lists the seller as VISION LABS YAZILIM HIZMETLERI ANONIM SIRKETI, a joint-stock company in Ankara, Turkey, which its own site says was founded in 2023. Version 1.0 was released on 4 September 2025.

On 27 October 2026 the app was for sale on Flippa, a marketplace where owners sell websites and apps. The listing text says the app "achieved a net revenue of $73K in its first year" and that in the quarter ending August 2026 it "recorded $8.6K in net revenue with a $6.7K profit". Net revenue here is the money left after the app stores take their commission. Flippa marks the listing "Vetted": its team says it checked the revenue, the main costs and the traffic. The listing shows no link to a payment provider, so the figures are grade B on this page, not A. The listing says one person runs the app, in about four hours a week, and the asking price is US$42,000. An asking price is not a sale price.

Flippa hides the seller's name from visitors who are not signed in, so the link between the listing and Vision Labs rests on facts that agree: the exact store name "Visio - AI Photo & Face Editor", the business location Turkey, an app age of one year, iOS and Android versions, and a website in 58 languages. The money also fell: the last quarter is about US$2,867 a month, less than half of the first-year average of about US$6,083 a month, both calculated on this page from the listing. The page also shows earlier companies that sold photo editing, selfie filters or trying on before buying, and failed.

Visio: US$73K net revenue in its first year, August 2026. AI photo and face editor app: hairstyles, hair colour, outfits, makeup and headshots on your own selfie, Turkey, team of 2 to 10, evidence grade B.

How to read this table: a grade B value is a figure from the Flippa listing, which Flippa's vetting team says it checked for revenue, primary expenses and traffic, without a payment-provider connection. A grade C value is the seller's own text, the App Store page or the company's own website. A grade X value was calculated on this page from the rows that it names. No value is grade A.

The App Store shows eight in-app purchases, with two names for each subscription period (Visio and Visio Pro), which suggests that the app tests prices or has changed its plans. Per-month values for the yearly plans are calculated on this page (price divided by 12). A weekly price of US$7.99 is about US$34.62 a month. The company's site says each new account gets a free trial and that prices are set per country. The Starter Pack and Power Pack are one-time credit packs, added in version 1.9 on 9 November 2025. All payments go through Apple or Google; the terms say "All sales are final".

03

Why did Visio work?

Four causes, in the order they mattered. Each one is a reusable lesson.

01

Search inside the App Store

The listing says the app "benefits from organic installs through App Store searches" and that most of the four weekly hours go to ASO, app store optimization: choosing the name, subtitle, keywords and screenshots so that the app appears when people search for hairstyle or photo editor. The store name itself lists the searches it wants: "AI Photo & Face Editor" with the subtitle "Hairstyles, Makeup, Retouch". The app is translated into 31 languages, so it can rank in many national stores.

02

A guide website in 58 languages

visioai.app has pages for each hairstyle, hair colour and outfit type, with before-and-after images made in the app on AI-generated model photos, in 58 languages. The pages cannot edit a photo; they send readers to the stores. The listing title claims "~600 organic web clicks/day" from these pages.

03

Weekly subscriptions that renew

The app sells Visio Pro by the week, the month or the year, from US$7.99 a week, plus one-time credit packs. The seller wrote that 80% of iOS revenue in May 2026 was renewals by existing subscribers, so the money did not depend only on new downloads that month.

04

A rented model and a library of looks

Vision Labs does not say it trains its own image model. Its privacy policy names Google for the generative AI processing and Cloudflare for storage and delivery. What the company owns, according to the listing, is "500+ owned templates": the prepared hairstyles, colours, outfits and photo styles that a user picks from.

How it was built

These details come from the App Store page, the company's privacy policy and websites, and the Flippa listing. They are grade C unless marked. [3, 8, 4, 1, 11]

  • Native apps for iPhone and iPad (iOS 16.6 or later, also on Apple silicon Macs and Vision Pro) and for Android, where the listing calls the Android version "newer".
  • Image generation by Google's generative AI services; photos stored temporarily and delivered by Cloudflare. The website's images load from Cloudflare's image service (imagedelivery.net), visible in the page source.
  • Payments only through Apple's App Store and Google Play: weekly, monthly and yearly subscriptions and one-time credit packs. The listing suggests direct web checkout as a way to cut store commissions.
  • 18 App Store versions between 4 September 2025 and 14 September 2026, most of them new hairstyles, outfits or photoshoot styles.
  • A website with pages in 58 languages and an Instagram account, @visio.photo.editor.
  • An ambassador program that pays university students for Instagram and TikTok content, "Performance-Based".
  • Run by one person in about four hours a week, according to the listing, mostly on App Store optimization.

Who tried this before Visio, and why did they fail?

Four companies in the Loot Drop database sold photo editing, selfie effects, hairstyle ideas or trying on before buying, and failed. The values below are from that database and are not independently verified.

Died 2005 to 2012Burned US$3.5M

Picnik

The promise

Easy photo editing in the web browser, with no software to download.

Why it died

Google bought it and then closed it, folding its tools into Google+.

Died 2016 to 2019Burned US$5M

Seerslab

The promise

Augmented-reality effects for selfies and social media stories.

Why it died

It did not win the large social media platforms as partners and lost to Snapchat's own filters.

Died 2017 to 2020Burned US$120K

Tress

The promise

A place to find hairstyle ideas and stylists for the African hair community.

Why it died

Instagram offered the same discovery, and Tress did not find a way to make money from its niche in time.

Died 2018 to 2022Burned US$4M

Try.com

The promise

Try clothes and other items before you pay for them, to make online shopping less risky.

Why it died

Shipping and returns cost too much, the pandemic moved spending to essentials, and Amazon's free returns did the same job.

Unit EconomicsLoot Drop entry ↗

The failed startups come from Loot Drop, a free database of dead startups, retold here in our own words. Loot Drop describes its entries as AI-assisted summaries of public sources, so these cards carry no evidence grade.

What changed

Picnik and Seerslab sold editing and effects that the platforms later gave away inside their own products. Tress sold hairstyle ideas that Instagram already showed. Try.com tried to solve the "will it look good on me" question with real goods in the mail, and the shipping cost more than the problem was worth to buyers.

Visio answers the same question with an image model. A preview of a haircut, a colour or a dress on your own face is one request to Google's image service and needs no stock, no stylist and no returns. That is why one person can run it in a few hours a week, by the listing's account. The weakness is the same as for Picnik and Seerslab: phone makers, Google and the social apps can add the same try-on to their own cameras and shops, and the Flippa figures already show revenue falling by about half from the first-year average to mid-2026.

05

Can one person copy Visio now?

Yes, if you can rank in the stores; the model is rented by everyone.

Nothing in Visio needs a research team: it sends photos to a commercial image model and wraps the result in a library of looks and a weekly subscription. What made the first year work, according to the listing, was search: App Store optimization in many languages and a guide website in 58 languages. The same falling numbers show that a copy is easy for others too.

Where it is still open: Other preview decisions: glasses, beards, tattoos, wedding looks, home paint colours, and markets where the big apps are not translated.

  1. 1Pick one decision that people are afraid to get wrong (a haircut, a colour, a dress) and make the app answer only that.
  2. 2Use a commercial image model through its API, and spend your work on the library of templates.
  3. 3Translate the store listing and the app into many languages and keep updating the keywords and screenshots.
  4. 4Build guide pages for each style that rank in search and link to the store.

What could go wrong for Visio?

The risks are the mirror image of the causes above.

Who is the seller

Flippa hides the seller and the website from visitors who are not signed in, and this page did not sign in. The listing calls the business "An anonymized subscription app". The link to Vision Labs rests on the exact store name, the location Turkey, the age of one year, the iOS and Android versions and the 58 languages, which all agree with the App Store page and the company's sites. No source in which the seller names itself was read.

Revenue fell by about half

The first-year net revenue of US$73,000 averages about US$6,083 a month, but the quarter ending August 2026 brought about US$2,867 a month. The listing does not say how much of the first year came from paid advertising. Updates slowed too: no new version between 8 April and 14 September 2026.

Margins that do not agree

The listing title says "84-97% margin", the listing fields say 41%, and the text says 78% for the last quarter. These may measure different periods or costs; the listing does not say.

A face editor rated 4+

The App Store shows "Age Rating 4+", the company's Visio page says "Ages 4+", and the terms of use state no minimum age. The app edits faces ("Refine smiles", "accentuate your jawline", skin smoothing) but this page found no feature that scores or rates a face or body. Version 1.7 of 4 October 2025 made the clothing try-on "available for multiple people" in one photo; the site's FAQ says "It does not put your face on someone else's photo or swap faces between people", and the terms say users must have "all necessary rights" to the photos they upload.

Paid student ambassadors

The ambassador page invites "university students" to "Create content on Instagram & TikTok" and "Get paid for views, engagement, and conversions you drive." It states no amount and does not say how the posts must be marked as paid. This is the company's own marketing, reported here, not a reason to stop.

Ratings from three counts

The US store shows 4.3 from 20 ratings, the Flippa listing shows 4.7 from 346 App Store reviews, and the company's sites show 4.6 from 1,054 to 1,057 ratings, a figure the company says it calculated itself from all national stores. This page did not check the worldwide figure.

A name that others use

Microsoft sells diagram software called Visio, and an unrelated web tool also calls itself Visio AI. The company's pages say: "It has no connection to Microsoft Visio, Microsoft's diagramming software." Vision Labs also makes FaceCast, an AI baby generator described as "AI images made for fun, not a genetic prediction", and FaceToon, shutter, B&W Colorify and Pomoducko.

An asking price, not a sale

The app is for sale at US$42,000, reduced from US$48,000. No sale is reported. A buyer would get the apps, the code, the subscribers, the website and the social media accounts, according to the listing.
