Zendai is a bookkeeping assistant for small shops in Thailand. Bookkeeping is the daily record of money that comes in and goes out. Zendai is a chatbot, a program that answers messages in a chat, and it lives inside LINE. A shop owner sends a photo of a bank transfer slip or a paper bill, and Zendai reads it and records the entry. The home page says that a shop can add the bot to a LINE group, so that staff record expenses too, with permissions for each person.
The money figures on this page come from TrustMRR, a site that reads a company's revenue directly from its payment processor through an API key, so the founder cannot type the numbers in. Zendai's processor is Stripe. On 31 October 2026 TrustMRR showed US$1,312 in monthly recurring revenue (MRR, the subscription revenue of one month) from 142 active subscriptions, and US$15,354 in revenue since the account was connected. The best month in the table was August 2026 with US$1,928; October 2026 had US$1,118, so revenue was falling at the time of writing.
The bot uses LINE's official channels. The company's open-source list names the LINE Bot SDK, which LINE describes as its Messaging API SDK (a software kit for programs that send and receive messages in LINE), and the terms name a LINE Official Account (a business account on LINE that a company registers). The founder is not named in any source and signs as sun; and the company behind the site is Zendai Digital Co., Ltd. in Uthai Thani province.

How to read this table: a grade A value was read by TrustMRR from the company's Stripe account, or comes from the US Federal Reserve. A grade C value is what the company writes on its own site or in its TrustMRR profile text. A "calc" value was computed on this page from the rows above it.

Why did Zendai work?
Four causes, in the order they mattered. Each one is a reusable lesson.
Inside the chat app the customer already uses
The founder wrote in January 2025 that Zendai lives inside the chat apps that people already use every day, so they do not need to learn anything new. The FAQ says that a shop adds Zendai as a LINE friend and starts typing, with no extra app to install.
Photos instead of typing
The home page says that Zendai reads transfer slips, receipts and paper bills from a photo and records them in one message. Blurred photos and photos that are not receipts do not count against the monthly quota. The paid plans differ in the number of transactions and image reads per month.
A free plan and low prices
The free plan allows 100 transactions a month. Paid plans start at ฿259 a month on yearly billing, about US$7.67. TrustMRR's figures give an average of about US$9.24 a month per paying subscription.
Records that a bank can read
The founder's stated reason for the product is credit: banks do not lend to small businesses without financial records, and Zendai keeps those records as a side effect of daily use. The FAQ adds that the data can be exported to Excel or PDF for an accountant.
How it was built
These details come from the company's open-source attribution page, which lists the libraries the product uses, and from its home page and terms. They are grade C. The list names libraries, not which model answers which message. [5, 2, 1]
- LINE Bot SDK for Node.js for the chatbot, and LIFF (the LINE Front-end Framework) for web pages that open inside LINE; the home page links to liff.line.me.
- The Vercel AI SDK with providers for Anthropic Claude, Google and OpenAI, plus the Anthropic, OpenAI and Google Gen AI client libraries.
- Next.js 14 and React for the web app, Hono as a web framework, and Radix UI components.
- Supabase client libraries, the Neon serverless Postgres driver and the Drizzle ORM for the database; Upstash Redis.
- The AWS S3 client for file storage, the Google Cloud BigQuery client, and Sentry for error reports.
- Stripe for payments, read by TrustMRR through an API key.

Who tried this before Zendai, and why did they fail?
Three companies in our database of failed startups tried to make bookkeeping easy for small businesses before chat-based AI. The values below are from that database and are not independently verified.
NetBooks
The promiseAn online accounting product for small business owners who lack the time or knowledge for complex financial software.
Why it diedIt could not stand out against QuickBooks, its customer acquisition cost was high, and it lacked features such as payroll that competitors were adding.
ScaleFactor
The promiseAutomated bookkeeping for small and medium businesses with machine learning, instead of an accounting firm.
Why it diedThe automation did not work as well as the marketing said, customers were unhappy, and the cost of support was higher than planned.
Kyte (B2B SaaS)
The promiseOne platform for Indian small businesses to replace spreadsheets: inventory, billing, customer records and analytics.
Why it diedAt prices of ₹500 to ₹2,000 a month, each customer brought too little money to pay for the field sales needed to win them.
The failed startups come from our database of 1,749 dead startups, retold here in our own words. Its entries are AI-assisted summaries of public sources, so these cards carry no evidence grade.
What changed
NetBooks and ScaleFactor asked small business owners to open accounting software and enter or check data there. ScaleFactor promised that machine learning would do the bookkeeping, and the failed-startup database record says the automation did not match the promise. Kyte sold a full platform to Indian shops at a low price and needed salespeople to win each one.
Zendai puts the bookkeeping into a chat that the owner already opens all day, and Zendai reads the slip photo or the typed sentence. The company's library list names AI libraries for Anthropic, Google and OpenAI. TrustMRR shows that 142 subscriptions paid on average about US$9.24 a month in October 2026, a price close to Kyte's low end, and no source mentions a sales team.
Can one person copy Zendai now?
Yes, in a country where one chat app dominates.
The parts are public: LINE's Messaging API, a language model that reads receipts, and Stripe. The local part is the Thai language, Thai payment slips and the habits of small Thai shops, which the product's pages are built around. Revenue was also falling in the last two months of the table, so the market is not proven to keep growing.
Where it is still open: Other chat apps and other countries are open. The founder named WhatsApp as a next step in January 2025; the current home page does not mention it.
- 1Pick a task that small business owners do every day and hate, such as recording expenses.
- 2Build it inside the chat app that the owners already use, through that app's official business API.
- 3Let a photo or a voice message replace typing, and charge by the number of photos read.
- 4Offer a free plan with a monthly quota, and let staff use the same bot in a group chat.
What could go wrong for Zendai?
The risks are the mirror image of the causes above.
Who is behind it
No source gives the founder's full name. The founder signs the TrustMRR profile as sun, the company blog speaks in the first person, and the site footer names Zendai Digital Co., Ltd., 169 Tambon Uthai Mai, Mueng, Uthai Thani. The headcount is not published; the FAQ says that the team answers support questions itself on Zendai's LINE Official Account.
Revenue was falling in autumn 2026
Monthly revenue was US$1,928 in August 2026, US$1,518 in September and US$1,118 in October, and the last 30 days were 20.9% below the 30 days before. MRR fell less, by 6.0% in 30 days, to US$1,312.
Usage claim and paying customers
The home page says that more than 16,919 shops use Zendai. TrustMRR shows 142 active subscriptions. The free plan explains part of the gap; the site does not say how it counts a shop.
Paid creator reviews
The company's KOL guide invites food-and-drink and finance creators to make paid TikTok clips that show real use, with the scope and the payment agreed for each job. It asks for honesty ("ที่เราขอคือความจริงใจ", what we ask for is sincerity, translation) and forbids exaggerated claims ("ห้าม: เคลมเกินจริง", do not: exaggerated claims, translation). The guide does not mention a label that marks the clip as paid.
Dependence on LINE
The whole product runs inside LINE through a LINE Official Account and LINE's SDKs. The sources do not discuss what Zendai would do if LINE changed its prices or rules for business accounts.
Another site on the contact address
Every Zendai page gives the contact address [email protected]. noru.app is a Thai website builder for shop orders that end in LINE. No source says who owns noru, or whether its payments go to the same Stripe account that TrustMRR reads.
